Students with Disabilities Pursuing Healthcare: From Patients to Practitioners

- Scholarship Intent: A $100,000 donation from Anthem Blue Cross to The Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University has established a new scholarship fund to support education-related expenses for students with disabilities who have committed to future healthcare work, whether as direct healthcare practitioners or working in the field of health justice. This initiative is part of Anthem’s broader commitment to address California’s healthcare worker shortage and to close the gap in health disparities across the state.

Criteria:
1. This scholarship is open to any San Francisco State University students (both undergraduate and graduate) who identify as having a disability and can articulate a commitment to a future in the healthcare professions (as broadly defined to include healthcare, public health, and health justice work).
2. Students must have a 3.0 GPA and commit to three meetings per semester with the Longmore Institute on Disability for a reading group on disability and healthcare with the Longmore Student Fellows and other scholarship recipients (schedule to be determined based on scholarship recipients’ availability). - Major: Any
