Scholten Family Endowed Scholarship in Journalism

• Scholarship Intent: Pauline Scholten (class of 1975) and her family have extensive ties to San Francisco State University. It all began with her father and his four brothers, who attended Frederic Burk Elementary School on the SF State campus. All five brothers later attended SF State, with four graduating and the fifth pursuing a career in real estate. Pauline’s father was the editor of the student newspaper, the Gator, and later became an OB/GYN, eventually returning to SF State as the director of women’s health. Pauline herself studied journalism and worked as a reporter for the student newspaper, which by then was known as the Phoenix. To honor her family’s legacy, Pauline is establishing the Scholten Family Endowed Scholarship in Journalism. This generous gift will ensure that future generations of journalism students can benefit from the same opportunities that have been so important to her many family members. The Scholten family’s roots at San Francisco State University run deep, and this scholarship will help continue their legacy.
