- Scholarship Intent: The scholarship recognizes high achieving first time freshman who have distinguished themselves as scholars and leaders. The award provides full resident tuition and fees for up to four years of full-time study at SF State (pending budgetary approval and satisfactory completion of program requirements). Each year the scholarship is awarded to a small number of eligible freshman in the nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma) as well as the surrounding counties of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Merced, Sacramento, San Benito, San Joaquin, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, and Yolo.
Criteria:* Non-Resident students (out of state) are not eligible to apply.
Criteria: 3.5 or higher GPA.
Presidential Scholar applicants are required to:
1) Complete all short answer and essay questions in Academic Works portal.
2) Upload their unofficial transcripts to Academic Works.
3) Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from current teachers or mentors. Letters must comment on the scholarship and leadership potential of the applicant and provide examples of the applicant’s impact on their community.
Scholarship Award Requirements:
1) Selected scholars will be required to live in designated campus housing all four years while attending SFSU. ADA accommodations will be made.
2) Scholars must participate in on and off-campus events to promote the importance of scholarship and service in the Bay Area.
3) Submit FAFSA annually and be eligible, per FAFSA guidelines, for federal and state grants.
4) Scholars must spend one semester on a study abroad program by their spring semester of their junior year to advance the Presidential Scholars mission of advancing and culturally and socially diverse society of life-long learners. OR Scholars must participate in a research project or internship/co-op during their academic journey at SFSU.
5) Any employment that the scholars have must be on campus.
6) To continue to receive the scholarship award, students must maintain a 3.5 GPA each semester and participate in all program activities.
