Vicente Narciso Marcelo Scholarship in English

Funds will be disbursed in Spring.

  • Scholarship Intent: To award a scholarship in memory of Vicente Narciso Marcelo to BA students enrolled in one of the four undergraduate major concentrations offered by the English Department: (Professional Writing and Rhetoric, English Education, Linguistics, or Literature). The scholarship was established by SF State alumna, Karim Salgado (Criminal Justice major) in honor of her grandfather, Vicente Narciso Marcelo.
  • Criteria: Please answer this question in a 250-word personal statement. Our donor, Mr. Vincent Narciso, loved reading and talking about literature; he also passionately believed that learning opens new doors. In that spirit, please share your ideas and experiences from your perspective as an English major. You can choose one of the following questions to answer:
    a) How has your experience as an English Major helped you see the world differently or opened a door for you?
    b) Think about one of the classes you’ve taken as an English major. How did the class content and experience change the way you think about the English language, English literature, or the ways we communicate via writing?
