Tillie Olsen Prize - Creative Writing/Women Gender

  • Awarding Department: Creative Writing and Women and Gender Studies
  • Scholarship Intent: To award one $500 prize this year. This award is named after the late Tillie Olsen to carry forward her fight for racial, economic, and social justice through artistic expression. It recognizes students who are carrying this legacy forward through art. A student will be chosen by their submission of a social justice creative writing piece. This creative piece can be but not limited to: a poem, a short story, a play, original music lyrics, a comic, a visual/film poem or story, a monologue, a creative autobiography or biography, or even a research paper.
  • Criteria: The prize will be awarded annually, alternatively to an undergraduate student currently attending SF State majoring in Creative Writing or Women and Gender Studies(WGS).
